Dave takes issue with people's comments about the Bay area.
I have mixed feelings; SF has a lot against it - cost of living and some measures of quality of life (let's face it, there's not a lot going on in the valley if you don't like geek culture), but the weather is nice (counts for more than you think) and crime is low (at least in our little slice). The views are generally breathtaking. In all, it's yet another warm bath of a town; it's so comfy, it's hard to get out, but if you stay too long, there are undesireable side effects. At the end of the day, you can make *anywhere* home, so why not do it where you get the most bang for your buck?
Most people I know in the Bay area are in the same spot - oscillating between "how can we leave?" and "oh, god, we've got to leave." Our current boltholes (sorted by descending desireability and ascending realism) are 1) Stockholm 2) Melbourne 3) Baltimore.
Stay tuned...

I vote for Baltimore and demand a re-count if it is anything other than that.

My utmost and heartfelt desire is to see Mark and Anitra plus the cutest little guy in the world move to Baltimore, so my vote goes to that wonderful mecca of culture, entertainment and reasonably priced housing in "the land of pleasant living."
