Corporate Citizenship

Apple is making an executive summary of the 9/11 commission report and the major speeches from the Democratic National Convention available for free on the iTunes Music Store. They deserve a lot of praise for this, and I hope they continue this practice.

Dissemination of information through multiple channels is all the more important as Americans’ rights are eroded;

Police officers in Louisiana no longer need a search or arrest warrant to conduct a brief search of your home or business. Leaders in law enforcement say it will keep officers safe, but others argue it’s a privilege that could be abused.

The only thing that worries me about Apple's largesse is that it can be used as an excuse for the government’s failure to provide the information to which we’re entitled in the first place. The market is not a viable solution for all problems.
