I second that. The underlying beauty of RSS is that it represents a basic
content transport in business IT too, namely a document - it has a header
and multiple positions. The idea of a document is so fundamental to ERP
processing, I can see the appeal of a real, working and simple
representation of a document in XML (RSS) is (a) successful and (b) a great
basis for extending.
An example, a business 'channel' for the head of a purchasing group might be
a 'pulled' list of requisition orders waiting for approval. Off goes an HTTP
request, and pop - an RSS style 'document' listing the requisitions awaiting
approval comes back as, e.g. the foundation, when rendered, for a
'miniApp'-style (term from SAP Workplace) rendering complete with inherent /
inbuilt 'what-to-do-next' instructions (the HTTP links).
