This is a very valid criticism but the only problem I can see with a
<source> or <source_link> tag is that it a) adds another required tag to the
format (if its optional it won't be used or used infrequently)  and b) adds
another level of data that the source providers need to enter and track.

And there is a problem with who the actual source is. If I point to an
article on another sit that points to another article on a further site
(perhaps because of the first site's trenchant commentary on the original
article) then what is the ultimate source?
