I have to agree with Aaron here.  The spec for the RSS format should be simple.  Very simple.  The only elements of the spec should be those that are universal to all modules.  I think that is a general happy medium between modularization and continued extensions of the spec.  Otherwise we'll eventually run into a situation where the RSS format accomodates some content well, while negelecting other forms of content completely.  RSS needs to be versatile.  Modularization seems to be the best way to do this.

BUT...A registry of modules is an absolute _must_.  Each module must be open to extensions when necessary.  No one should own a module (just as no one owns RSS).
