RE: [syndication] CMS-Vendor list

Besides, even Phil Suh (that is the other "list owner") believes on the
usefulness of such vendor oriented list.

This is part of his posting about this new list on the CMS list:

....
That said, there are several things that cms-vendors could and should
hammer out amongst themselves, that would benefits web developers like
ourselves.

One of the biggest challenges are the lack of robust, friendly, end-user
tools for checking out and editing assets in an asset management system.
Most CMS vendors only offer browser-based access[1]. If CMS vendors got
together with companies that know how to deliver end-user applications
(Macromedia, Adobe, Allaire, etc.) and figure out a *common API* for such
end-user apps, that would be a huge win.

In my estimation (and I haven't looked it it closely, so if someone has a
more experience, please speak up), the best candidate for such an API is
WebDAV. Though not perfect, it could perhaps be extended to provide all
the functionality needed.

I wish the folks on cms-vendor much success.

[1] There are a few exceptions: Mediasurfaces advertises their Dreamweaver
integration, Userland's Manila has the Radio Userland client, Artesia
Technology's TEAMS software has a java-based checkout app. Still, no one
has a text editing client that comes close to rivalling the writer's
friend and web devloper's bane--Microsoft Word.
