Re: [syndication] ICE Standard
ICE defines a language for generic content exchange (all sorts of
different 'content payloads' can be syndicated) but that also includes
markup to encode session management and control data relevant to the
processing of content exchange requests and responses. That's a very
rough description -- I'm sure others will correct me if they feel I've
over/mis-stated something ;-)
RSS, on the other hand, is designed to encode a single, relatively simple
payload type, and does not include any syndication session management
information. The latter is, IMHO, a Good Thing.
Some useful references to different approaches to news and other
syndication ideas are found at:
http://www.java.utoronto.ca/news/references.html
(this is not complete -- there are some references I haven't added yet).
This reference pages is part of a project I've been working on to
develop a simple session-management independent framework for syndicating
'generic' data. There is, however, no working code supporting it --
unlike the case for RSS, for which there is lots of working code.
Hope this helps --
Ian
