The immediate benefit to RSS1.0 is that it makes clear how people can
add their own needed extensions (as has always been a request for RSS
and a requirement for RSS1.0). Some of the extensions that have been
discussed are already proposed RSS1.0 modules.

Diligence. A clear process for proposing and adopting features would
certainly help out here, even if it is of the simplest form. A core
group of people, with stated and clear respect of the design
philosophy desired, who can ensure that the process is adhered to and
proposals match the design philosophy, would certainly help as well.
