I'll have you know that I went over to the rss-dev mailing list and 
read up on the spec before writing my original response.  It wasn't 
completely clear that this was geared toward genuine uniqueness.  I 
erred on the side of caution.

This still doesn't help Julian as many feeds aren't supporting the 
newer spec.  This is unfortunate.  Funny how politics and attitudes 
get in the way of these things...
