Re: [syndication] NameSplitting

What a wonderful thing to wake up to this morning.

I'll have to agree with both camps on this one - when Dave suggests brand
new names, I agree - RSS needs to burst into the flames of a newly renamed
phoenix, with no drudgeries of the pass.

In some aspects, though, I agree with the other camp, "make sure people
know that this is related to RSS". The negatives outweigh the positives
though - I *can* see confusion and frustration: "ooooo. a *third* and
*fourth* RSS standard? how flippin' pointless is this?".

I like Julian Bond's suggestion of RDFSS for the 1.0 block. Actually, now
that I look over his names, I like both of his suggestions, which kinda
seems contradictory to the above <g>... They're similar to RSS, but not
enough so to immediately suggest a pointless linking (much like XML and
XML-RPC aren't "similar").

Perhaps, but the little momentum we have is one of baby-steppish confusion.

I don't want this.

I don't like the name, personally. It suddenly makes other uses of RSS
"wrong" by not being a headline. I know some people using RSS to spit out
quotes, and hadn't you mentioned something on your manillasite about
someone using it from restaurant menu's or something similar? Perhaps
"Minimal Syndication Language"?
