Re: [syndication] A newbies opinion (if I still qualify!)
James, this is a very useful point of view.
While the naming didn't make that much of a difference to you, would it have
made your job more difficult if the three outstanding formats called "RSS"
had different names, and pointed to each other?
Based on experience working with content engineers at various publishing
organizations, you're more competent technically to wade through the
details, and more highly motivated than the person who RSS, imho, is
designed for -- someone who is quite busy and is turned off by irrelevant
(to them) complexities. So utter simplicity in the presentation is very
important, as I see it.
About the noise level in this space, I'm going to do something about this.
As soon as this matter is resolved I will withdraw, or if it clearly isn't
converging on resolution, I will withdraw. I have so many things to do that
are much more interesting. For example we're getting the second installation
of xmlStorageSystem [1] going, this is leading edge stuff for 2001, for me,
RSS was leading edge in 1997. That's where I like to work, away from the
crowds on stuff that's going to make a difference in a year or two. I'd also
like to get a plug in here for OPML which might fit into your work somehow.
