I am working on an e-mail which document an eXtensible Content Syndication
format (XCS). I will send it out later today.
RSS 1.0 is nice but I don't think there is a perfect/correct mapping. I think
that XCS should reuse a lot of what we learned with RSS 1.0 but should also take
into consideration what we learned with OCS.

I was thinking index.xcs (or index.FORMAT ).
I think it is a good idea. The other advantage is that you could use it to hold
multiple index.xcs files. IE
http://server.com/index.xcs (contains all syndications)
http://server.com/fishing/index.xcs (contains all syndications WRT fishing)
If you are a few levels within a website you could find the most appropriate
XCS file by doing back down the directory tree until you hit the /
