RE: [syndication] Syndic8.com now has 841 feeds available...

Leigh asks,

Definitely. I have this great picture (in my head) of a
pipeline of things that have to happen to get a site
syndicated. The entry of a link to a site's syndicated
XML into Syndi8 is one of the latter stages. The earlier
stages include:

1. Initial entry of a "please syndicate this" request.

2. Accumulated expressions of interest ("Me toos") against the
   request.

3. Assignment of the request to a particular Syndic8 member.

4. Evangelism of the site to get them to syndicate, using as
supporting evidence the information from item 2, as well as
other "why should I syndicate" documents that will be linked
   from Syndic8.

5. Implementation of syndication on the site or
arrangements made to scrape the site.

6. Monitoring of the feed to ensure that it is properly formatted
and being kept up to date.

7. Entry of the link to syndicated XML into Syndic8.

8. Announcement.

9. Availability on syndic8 via web pages and various XML feeds,
as well as mirrors to other sites. Based on some input from
a few people, I am going to make more of the site open to
non-members, and I will be mirroring various forms of the
   XML.

(Whew!)

This will all take some time, and certain parts are definitely
optional. Item 5 will probably be just about last. Since this is
clearly too big to build all at once, I am trying to get things
going one step at a time, with each step being something that is
useful on its own and also as part of the big picture.

> I thought that was the original intent of the site?

Absolutely. I am working on the infrastructure. Also, since I am
learning PHP and MySQL as I go, I had to do the easiest part first.
I also spent some time finding a decent PHP/XML implementation,
finally settling on PRAX, as built by syndication's own Rael
Dornfest.

BTW, I am very good at keeping TODO lists of all of the suggestions,
and I'm happy to accumulate them. The list itself will be on the
site at some point.
