I think I see my problem with the Yahoo interface. Even though the group archives are public the group is not accessable. The problem is that when Yahoo switched clubs to groups some groups were placed in 'adult' categories (even though they weren't adult) and Yahoo will not move them. If any logon is required to access the group then the RSS feed cannot be used.
