Lacking a heuristic for civility, we'll have to rely on that very imprecise tool, judgment. I ask the list members to exercise judgment in posting this sort of thing; conceivably, the sentiment of the statement below could be on-topic, but I would ask that it be conveyed in a constructive way.

Really, all that I'm asking is for the people here to act maturely and somewhat professionally. That doesn't mean that we've introduced the thought police - negative statements are part of life - but it does mean that discussion shouldn't extend to personal insults and blatant baiting (as we have here, from time to time).

I sincerely hope that's not too much to ask. If it is, we may very well end up banning people, but it isn't my intention to become a babysitter; I have neither the time or the inclination.
