Syndication : past, present and future

My name is Michel, I am a French student in comunication. 

I currently work on the content syndication. I discovered this 
concept little time ago. Out, according to this newsgroup, the 
concept of syndication is not new. 

Could you, if you have 5 minutes, give me your vision on the 
subject. 

- How was born this concept? 

- Yourselves, how did you discover it? 

- Aren't the discussions on the syndication are often limited to 
technology RSS. Are there other associated techniques? If, yes which 
and why aren't they not also popular? 

- Lastly, which is your future vision of this concept (future 
technologies, evolution of the uses)?
