New RSS reader
Hi all,
after two years of development, I've just uploaded the first stable release of our
new program Surfpack Startpage, and would be glad to present it to syndication
subscribers. This freeware Windows program, in a nutshell, is an aggregator for
different feed types - XML, HTML, JavaScript. It also supports DLL plugins with
XML/HTML/JavaScript output. All the modules' output is combined on a single HTML
page. It has no GUI and, generally speaking, you even can't see the program itself
- it works in the browser (MS IE for now, Mozilla should be supported soon, Opera
probably never). For now most of news modules are RSS and Atom, most of plugins
are link/bookmark managers, and overall look is similar to online portals, so we
call it Surfpack Startpage and use it as browser's homepage.
RSS/Atom module is 100% XSL. Well really, even 200%, because there are two XSL
scripts. First one is simple and just displays several headers and descriptions on
the startpage. The second one is two-column Reading Layout, somewhat I've never
seen in RSS aggregators, but consider it as one of the most user-friendly layout
to read RSS. Because it's just HTML+ tricky JScript, you can preview it live here
(if your browser is MS IE or based on IE engine - I didn't make Mozilla version
yet) -

I'd be happy to get a feedback about such an unusual layout of RSS aggregator.
I've compiled a "Developer's Edition" with Scobleizer, Seth Godin, Joel Spolsky,
and some other blogs and news added over standard edition. It's available here -

It's free, no ads/spyware/nags/etc. We're working on a shareware edition
currently. Any feedback is really apreciated !
