ratings and categories?

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this has been discussed. Has there been any 
consideration taken into the rating and categorizing of RSS-fed items 
by the end-user viewing the data?

That is, if a user reads an item from a feed, what mechanism exists 
to rate and categorize it?  This from a personal perspective, not 
just from a public one.

And to take this further, what about the possibility of a user rating 
an item and have that 'vote' return to it's source?

It also seems reasonable that since many of the directories are 
network accessible, shouldn't there be category tree as well?  It 
seems like it would be tremendously useful to have a networked source 
of categories.  Useable by the author of an item, then markable with 
additional categories by a user and then return vote-able to the 
author.  Make any sense?
