Re: [syndication] An idea for RSS distribution - push it through Jabber!

I'm slightly uncomfortable with the word "server". IMHO, if at all
possible this should be de-centralized.
well idealy it should be, every one serving RSS should do that.
You could change Drupal, phpNuke, Slash, Manila, Radio, to
generate those notification messages.
But then RSS is thriving exactly because it's so simple.
Scheduled Pull works pretty damn well, even though Push on Change
might be better.
it works fell for you! But if 10000 people have 30 feeds in their
viewers, imagine the kind of traffic that gets going at the top
of every hour!
I just have a hard time imagining lots of RSS sources implementing
Jabber push successfully, when so many of them have such trouble
producing a simple 0.91 file now.
yeah, that for sure!
But I think this approach is simpler than the ones suggested before.
All the distribution of the messages and the handling of who gets
it (the subscription/online presence) is handled by Jabber, which
is exactly what it is good at (among other things).
So you don't have to implement that in your framework. And if
you want to control who can subscribe (to make this a fee based
service for example), you have the option of running your own
jabber server and control how accounts get created there.
