OnePage Stops Free Portal Service...
As detailed in my AmphetaDesk history [1], OnePage.com was one of my
favorite and most recently used portals. Although not strictly related to
RSS, it allowed *any* site to be snipped and placed in a collective window
- it was much better than octopus.com because it was lowtech - no flashy
Java or Shockwave things driving me nuts.
Before Radio Userland [2] and AmphetaDesk [3] came along, I used OnePage
daily - catching up on about 80 sites sucked down into 9 pages or so. Some
of these sites still don't have RSS feeds, making Onepage still a nice
place to visit so often.
Sadly enough, it's The End of Free [4]:
>Given our success down this path, we have increasingly been forced to
>modify our service to address the needs of corporations looking for a
>integrated portal solution. Going forward we see this trend continuing
>have therefore come to the difficult decision to end access to the free
>consumer site you have been using.
>
>*** The free consumer portal site that you are familiar with
>will no longer be supported as of October 15, 2001. ***
(from a customer mailing just sent out).
