Sure, I agree with the premise.  It's the UI that gets stacked up on top of it
that becomes a real hassle.  Dealing with multiple pings to different servers on
different APIs is going to be a real pain in most of the existing environments.

The wasabii interface wasn't without it's issues but it is a good starting
point.  It would be good to see this ping effort directed toward being part of a
larger API.  If not fully formed now, the ping interface seems as good a
starting place as any.
