i read some talk of context, and perhaps i've taken it out of context
(no pun intended) but i read it roughly as: "i do all sorts of stuff
that could provide contextual meaning to what i'm looking for. some
of this stuff i do in 'real life' and some of it i do online." is
that correct? an online example might be that you were just reading
three articles about "Educational Looping." if you were then to
search for "looping" it might then be able to infer that you're not
looking for things about knitting, rug making, or program control
structures.
this reminds me of les orchard's "PersonalWebProxy" project
[http://www.decafbad.com/twiki/bin/view/Main/PersonalWebProxy].
Basically, it's a thing that sits between you and the internet and
collects information on what you do, gives you a rich history of what
you've done, and trys to help find stuff (like RSS feeds or FOAF
files). a thing such as this could provide the type of context i
think was being talked about. if there was some way for this PWP to
communicate with a 'large pool of content'*, it could provide
appropriate/focused/contexual results. the PWP would know
the "personal information" but only need to share relevant bits of it
to perform the searches. it would know what feeds you're subscribed
to (and possibly those of your friends by discovering FOAFs ->
Published subscription lists), sites you read often, recent searches
you've performed, etc, etc... if it was hooked up to your tivo it
might even be able to fish out infomation about your favorite shows.
it could scan your email, monitor your IM chats, and watch you on the
web. and the best part is that it's *personal* and runs locally. it
can (mostly) anonymously provide bits of information when needed, but
mostly keep things under wraps.
