Primarily, you are. Since you're not willing to take the discussion to
mailing lists, there's no way I can find the time to read through every
site you (or anyone else) has linked. With a mailing list, all the
discussion comes into one mailbox, and I can read the plain-text discussion
at my leisure. When I respond, I respond to the list, so that everyone else
can read my thoughts.

With the web-based discussion, I have to run around to multiple websites
(with the negatives already listed in the previous email) and then, when
devising a response, post it to my site, optionally emailing (emailing!)
everyone else saying "here are my thoughts on your thoughts". I simply
don't have the time to load up thirty different sites (isn't it ironic that
RSS, being intended as a syndication format devoid of design elements, can
only be discussed within the confines of the chaff it's meant to remove?).
