I'm curious - where does it say that they're supposed to?
I'd say use HTTP redirects *and* the in-RSS elements; you're pretty much
guaranteed to have clients understand the HTTP redirects (because it's
specified behaviour in the appropriate standard, rather than an add-on
module).
